he Zoo Lake Users Committee is a voluntary organisation dedicated to restore and develop the Zoo Lake Park. With 46,6 hectares to attend to, there is a lot of ground to cover. The health and development of the park depends upon the volunteers who help us throughout the year with gardening, looking after the trees, tending to lawns and pathways, and so much more. Contact us about the different ways in which you can join the team. We are always looking for passionate volunteers to fill a variety of roles.
Current Volunteer Groups
The garden group works on rehabilitating and maintaining the various gardens in the Park. Each garden is allocated to a separate gardener and there is a lot of fun and friendly competition between the gardeners for the best show.
The Tree group maintains an audit of all the trees in the park and monitors their health. When necessary new trees are planted where trees have either died, fallen over or simply are too old and have to be removed.
Zoo Lake Park has two wetlands - one running from the Zoo in the South, and one running from the East. This committee is studying these wetlands and will make proposals as to the manner in which they can be developed both for ecological and educational purposes.
The Playground Committee is involved in designing and building a special area for children where they can play in safety.
The Finance Committee is involved in helping the Finance Director with the financial affairs of the company and in particular the administration of donations.
